How to look chic on a budget

I do not believe that you need a lot of money or a wardrobe full of designer clothes to look elegant, chic and fashionable. Wearing the season’s trends does not need to break the bank.

On this blog I attempt to feature clothes that range in price from the expensive and aspirational through the mid-range brands to the high street equivalents of the latest looks.

Provided you have your basics covered it can be fun to play around and experiment.

The above outfit would make a great holiday travelling ensemble.

WISHING ALL MY AMERICAN READERS A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

Love the cape! And well done to the photographer – super photos.

Thank you Dilys I will pass your compliment on to the sometimes reluctant photographer, who would probably rather be reading the Sunday papers than taking photos.

Chic on a budget, yes you’re so right, clothes from charity shops and dress agencies certainly have a place in my wardrobe, wonderful bargains can be found if one has ‘an eye’.

lOVE this website! One tiny tweak…I’d like to see a bit more color in the hat, or maybe in a scarf as one “power surges” or maybe in the gloves…

You have a point Mildred I usually do add a dash of colour.

Thank you for a lovely blog! I enjoy reading it and wish you well for the holiday season. For the New York area readers, Eileen Fisher has an outlet at Woodbury Common with amazing prices and excellent sales – and Green Eileen is a great treasure trove of gently used items and occasional samples at fractions of the original prices ! I spent the first 25 years of my career as a costume designer for TV and movies. A great base wardrobe of black pants, black skirt and tank is all you need . Add color and pattern any way you want – jewelry, sweaters, bags ….the choices are endless…as is your imagination!

Thanks for your compliment Suzanne. I went to Woodbury common many years ago. It was great. We have Bicester Village, Nr Oxford here. Not quite as big but some great bargains.

Love the cape! It really provides a great focal point for an outfit. And you’re right…a few simple, well-fitting pieces can be the basis of a chic wardrobe.
