Masculine style shoe trend

I just love this elegant building. It is right in the heart of St. Tropez. I think it is now a local government building. However I image that in the past it was an elegant residence.

Talking of elegance I think this bag below oozes modern elegance. I also noticed whilst checking out the shops in St. Tropez that the style in shoes for this season was decidedly masculine. Personally I have loved this brogue style for many seasons now. In fact it has definitely become my default style for footwear; except in summer when I love white trainers.

I find that lace-up shoes give great support to the feet and in my opinion can be worn with dresses and skirts as well as trousers. I consider them investment buys and try to spend as much as possible on a good quality leather pair. To buy stiff hard lather can defeat the purpose of a comfortable shoe.

I look after my classic shoes, putting shoe trees in overnight and giving them a good spray of waterproof protection. Many of my original Tods have lasted over eight years. They have been re-heeled and re-soled a couple of times and are still going strong.

I just love this bag.

I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I've just bought a rather similar bag. I always like the idea of brogues but, in practice, I find they make me look like a bag lady.

  • I have several pairs of brogues, and have chosen slightly different ones to avoid looking too much like a man's shoe - soft burgundy, black patent, navy blue with blue laces, tan and finally a metallic pair (not leather). I only wear them with trousers, and enjoy the fact I can stride out as well as any man!

  • I love brogues, I have a brown pair and a navy pair. I have been wearing brogues for about the last 20 years. I think they look very smart with casual or dressy trousers.

  • Thanks for all your comments. A mixed response to the shoes. It seems you either love them or hate them. I will show how I wear mine in an outfit post shortly

  • I have four pairs of brogues...my feet are slightly different sizes, and the lace up styles are nice and secure. Love them!
