French weddings in our Village

We are fortunate to have a beautiful old church in the centre of our French village which is host to some very “posh” weddings in the summer.

One of my favourite occupations on a Saturday afternoon is to stand outside the church and watch the wedding guests arrive for the ceremony. I love to see what the women are wearing.

Here are a few photos that I was able to take as I lurked in the bushes.  Not exactly up to paparazzi standards however it will give you a flavour of some of the stunning outfits.

Bright stripes and animal print.  From the short to the long. Not sure about the white shoes worn by the man!

Love the floppy white hat and the palazzo pants are unusual.  The pink accessories look very chic. Trousers seem to be perfectly acceptable at “posh” french weddings.

I thought the British guests looked very chic in pink

More trousers and flat shoes. Well we do have very uneven cobbled streets in the village.

The short! Don’t think I could walk in those shoes.

The long!

I thought this was a very simple and chic outfit. Flat shoes again.

This was a very lovely dress. The photo does not do it justice.

This was also very chic and simple.

Love this combination. The dress was equally as sensational from the front.

The purple dress was definitely my favourite outfit of the afternoon. It was accessorised to perfection and the wearer was very “soignee”.

A photo of me taking photos. Not sure my next career will be as a paparazzi!

What do you think. Would you wear any of these outfits?

Some similar outfits I found for you to check out.

I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • i love all the colors! for some reason i picture french women wearing mostly neutrals, but there are some lovely, vibrant colors at this wedding.

  • Hello - There is lots to like. I love the blue/tourquoise John Lewis dress with black lace detail. I also like the thicker heeled court shoes. I like all the hats but would hesitate to wear the white one as it's the bride's privalage to be the only one wearing white. However there are a few others to choose from, but my favourite style of headgear is still the facinateur which doesn't seem to feature in this article. I have been to several village weddings in France and have noted that almost anything goes from the casual with flat sandals to high end fashion. Interesting to see n'est pas ?!

    • Hi Swan You are right there did not seem to be any fascinators. In fact I don't think I have seen any worn in France. I agree there is always a range of styles in France as opposed to the more formal and conservative styles we tend to wear here in the UK.

  • Love the palazzo pants outfit as well as the black print dress. Though my favorite photo was of you LOL...you looked darling with those rosebushes barely hiding you.

  • I have been going through lots of discussion forums to find out what to wear to a French wedding - and your post has been the most helpful by far! This has given me the best ideas - thank you so much :)

Love the palazzo pants and also the cute navy and grey dress with black hat.

  • Love this post! Very interesting insider info. I adore the aqua/teal dress. Wonder where it's from? Great fun seeing all the French St Trop fashions xx

  • so refreshing to see the mix of Casual and Elegant which makes so much sense for our Comfort
    at an event

  • What I especially love is that these are 'real' women! Not models with unattainable proportions that I struggle to identify with when trying to find inspiration. More please!

  • How refreshing to see women wearing pretty, chic outfits instead of bulging out of very short, bustier dresses as so many young women do at British weddings.
