Walking on the beach in winter

Bliss! Winter sunshine after the dull dark days of London. On New Year’s day we decided to get up early and go for a long walk on the beach at Croix Val Mer. It was still chilly when we set out so I put on a cashmere sweater, some years old similar. Plus my new winter coat in boiled wool by Jaeger. My investment piece this season. It is still available and has been reduced further but only small and medium sizes left. I am wearing a medium as I wanted a coat that was roomy enough to layer over a thick sweater or jacket. It does come up big. You can just see in some of the photos that it is two tone. A dark navy at the bottom and a soft deep purple at the top. You will need to have height to wear this style. If you are petite I would recommend something like this wool collarless coat.

Fedora hat similar at Nordstrom and John Lewis. Womens trainers by Asics similar at Nordstrom and John Lewis (some styles reduced to clear).

Sun worship!

I am definitely beginning to feel refreshed and invigorated after the hectic and challenging last months of 2016. I do think that it is important to take time out from our ever increasingly fast paced and demanding lifestyles. If I do have any resolutions, I prefer to call them intentions, for the coming year it is to slow down. I have been able to notice that if certain chores do not get done the world does not fall apart. What can seem important and urgent today can seem less so with the passage of time.

One of my favourite prayers/sayings is:

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference

Happy New Year to you You look relaxed and well on the beach. I totally agree with your sentiment about slowing down this has been my intention for this year too. Sometimes we don’t realise that we are in fact running on empty.
Do keep up your lovely posts many of us rely on your advice and suggestions
    Kind regards for 2017

Actually winter is my favorite time to be a the beach! So relaxing. I like this look a lot and would wear it also! The holidays were not relaxing, so I am beginning the year fried! Maybe it is time to find a beach somewhere!

Love the coat. the whole ensemble…your photo reminded me of Johnny Cash’s album title ‘The Man in Black’! LOL You look fab and sooooo happy! Nothing like a little set back to have made me change my ways. Finished a lovely, great purge in the house. And the purge in our minds to slow right down…seems like living life with intention is a major theme for 2017. More and more people are realizing the importance of this. Have a blessed 2017 Josephine et all!

It almost seems that the older we get the faster we run. Or maybe it’s just a matter of changing times and ways…but whatever, I do agree. I tend to be on the frantic must-get-it-done-now side of things, so it’s difficult to slow down. But I must! Happy New Year Josephine: so glad we are on line friends!

Lucky you, to be so tall and able to carry off that beautiful coat so well. A great, updated classic piece. As I am short, and not necesarily petite, I need unbroken, simple lines in a coat with no fussy details, such as the one you suggested. Like the idea of a collarless coat, too. Good for short-necked folk and it is helpful not to have lapels adding bulk if one is full-busted. A scarf tied a variety of ways will add interest and/or other color.

So glad you are finally feeling a bit restored. I have found that I simply don’t bounce back from things like illness and stress the way I might have done even five years ago. It is good to reset our own expectations and adapt when and where it is necessary, so your plan to slow things down sounds great. Enjoy your time in France.

You look very happy and relaxed. A good way to start the new year. I have learnt to let go of things to a certain extent freeing up time for the things that I enjoy doing and being able to spend time maintaining me!!! How fabulous to be able to walk on the beach in the sunshine even if it is a bit cool. We have bitterly cold weather here making it impossible to go out for a walk at the moment.

Intentions, not resolutions…what a good idea, not nearly so demanding, and perhaps more doable. Happy new year Josephine. I look forward to hearing about your future travel plans and buys.

Thank you for all your lovely comments. I am certainly enjoying myself in the winter sun and getting some well earned rest and recuperation.
I hope 2017 has got off to as good a start as mine had. Well may it continue. We had a picnic on the beach yesterday in temperatures of about 18C.

I love to hear from you please leave a comment
