News and views from St Tropez

Whenever I come down to Grimaud I go to the market in St. Tropez, which takes place every Tuesday and Saturday morning. I always find something of interest there. My favorite stalls are the scarf and jewelry ones. I am like a magpie and am drawn to the quirky glittery jewels. This trip I was fascinated by the vibrant coloured umbrellas above. All the colours of the rainbow were on display.

Typical St. Tropez colours.

The market would not be complete without the traditional Breton.

Every time I pass this shop which is hidden down one of the small side streets I am drawn to the soft muted colours and the classic styles. Very French and very chic!

I could not pass this window without a quick photo

The St. Tropez market in all its glory. I hope you enjoyed this quick trip. I will be back in the South of France in January with some more news and views.

Those soft muted colours are the same every year in France. I lived in the SW for 13 years – It was really hard to find a cheerful colour in the shops. They look great on a brunette with olive skin but like death on a typical English complexion.

I loved to visit St Tropez market when I stayed near La Garde Freinet a few years ago. It’s a perfect day out – head straight to the market, have a wander round, find a memento or delicious treat, have coffee either on the quayside (expensive) or beside the market (normal). A little window-shopping and then stroll to the end of the breakwater and then find somewhere in the back streets for lunch. Have another walk and then head back to the vineyard… Sweet memories of a special time…

My sister and I visit Port Grimaud every summer and several visits to St Tropez market are an absolute must – sitting with coffee and pastry and watching the world go by is one of our highlights, as well as buying a few treats for ourselves.
    Just perfection.

I agree Jan it is perfection. I prefer offseason as the market is less crowded and it is easier to get a seat in one of the cafes

I notice we older chic chicks tend to lose our young posture. Look at photos..do your shoulders roll forward? Over time this will give you a bent upper back. The easiest way to fix by using fewest muscles and therefore least energy is to simply gently lift your sternum or breastbone. Hope this helps someone. Retired physiotherapist in australia.

      Hi Lynne
You are so right about posture. It is so important as we get older. I attend a Pilates class every week and that really helps me continue to stand tall.
      Thanks for your tip.

I say BUY a bunch of those SILVER BASKETS and sell them on your site!I will BUY TWO!!!!!!!!!!!

Great idea La Contessa. I have often thought about buying jewellery etc in St. Tropez market and selling it on the blog. Logistics would be challenging. Not sure I could get all those silver baskets on the plane.
