My new leather jacket

My new leather jacket

I felt it was about time I treated myself to a new leather biker jacket. I bought my last one in 1985. It has stood me in very good stead over the years but is finally beginning to look a little “tired”. You can see how I last styled it here.

As this was a serious investment piece I did a considerable amount of research before making my final choice. One of my criteria was that I wanted a navy one. I felt that a colour was softer than the classic black. Luckily I found several brands offering coloured leather bikers.

My final choice was the MeandEm “boyfriend style biker jacket”. It is pricey but I managed to buy mine in their sale. They do have a few left at the reduced price. I have paired it with my new spot blouse by Finery (Still available at John Lewis), a pair of classic jeans (US) and my new leather boots by Vionicshoes (US link).

I had great fun last week doing this photo shoot with fellow blogger Julie of Jafinthebox.com. She is french and has a great post up at the moment with some quirky observations on us “Brits”. We went to The Southbank. A lively buzzy area of London which plays host to graffiti artists, street food vendors, carnivals, theatre, brutalist architecture, mime, dance and street performers. It has great views of the North Bank, Hungerford and Jubilee bridges.

I am wearing my navy leather more formally here with wide trousers (very old Emporio Armani similar US and UK and my finery spot blouse. Fedora hat similar US and UK

I am aware that this look is quite edgy and probably comes under the heading of “I will wear what I want”. It may not be to everybody’s taste but I really do love this jacket.

I really love these photos. Julie is a really talented photographer. Do follow her on Instagram.

Hi Josephine. I’m in US at the moment and am thinking of buying the boots you are wearing. I have plantar fasciitis so am always on the look out for footwear that is really supportive and comfortable. I would be buying online so am wondering how the sizing works out, are they small fitting and what is the width like? I would be a 3 or 31/2 UK size. Love the jacket too btw

      Hi Barbara
My boots seem to be true to size. I take a size 4 UK 37 EU. I have fairly narrow feed so can’t really comment on the width. They are extremely comfortable. I suggest you contact them about the width. They were very helpful on the UK site with sizing when I emailed them.

Love the jacket and the shoes! You look fantastic and these are good pics. I’m from America, so I like to see the sights you share.

Fabulous jacket, I looked long and hard at it as I love Me&Em but as I already own a black biker jacket I decided to buy a navy suede jacket from Whistles instead,as this autumn’s large purchase. I like edgy but for people who aren’t comfortable in that kind of style you’ve shown other lovely ways of stlyling something they may not have considered. I think the “younger” (for want of a better term) look in the first photos really suits you!

      Hi MaureenC
I did try the Whistles navy leather jacket before making my final decision. I felt that because the Me&Em one was oversized it was not too tight round the hips which some of the others were. I agree it is a bit out there however when you team it with classic pieces it calms the look down.

looking great Josephine, thinking it’s about time I did the same and replaced my leather jacket.

I absolutely love your look here- especially styled with your Armani pants and fedora- you look so youthful and ready for whatever comes your way!

Thank you Anne. Those very old Armani pants have served me well. Somehow I feel you are right they give me a sense of authority. I used to wear them a lot when I was running my training seminars.

Josephine! You and your biker jacket are FAB! This (seriously) is my most favorite look on you. You should let your inner Debbie Harry come out in public more often.

    You did good. 🙂

Josephine, your new leather jacket is Drop Dead Gorgeous, and you in it. I have been thinking of buying a leather jacket for some time but now you have fired me to do so! Unfortunately I am a Plus size and have scoured the internet with no luck. Could you help me trace a plus size jacket? I would be so pleased.
    Regards,
    Fran Whyte
