Lift your mood with a bright coloured coat

Lift your mood with a bright coloured coat

Well, I did tell you that I had succumbed to a bright coloured coat. I bought it recently in the Hobbs sale. I just could not resist. I think I have an obsession with pink at the moment. I used to wear more muted colours, however, these days when I try them on they seem to look dull on me.

Since my hair has gone grey the brighter tones lift my spirits as well as complexion. There are numerous articles on the internet and in the press about not wanting to look invisible when we are older. Wearing a coat as bright as this one makes “invisibility” impossible.

The joy of having a brightly coloured coat is that it goes with all my neutrals, my navies, greys and blacks as well as the lighter toned creams and pastels.

In the first photo, I am wearing my cream MeandEm top and a pair of their wide leg trousers (from a couple of seasons ago). This seasons trouser collection.

I love the combination of pale and bright colours in the same colour family. I bought the scarf I am wearing in St. Tropez market.

I still love the pale pink Mango coat I bought last Spring. It is a lighter weight and is best worn when the weather is warmer.

Your pink coat is gorgeous. I like several of the coats you included on the list but was disappointed that nothing in my color range was available in a petite size. Small isn’t the same as petite and I deal with this all the time so don’t ever buy many clothes. Certainly don’t wish to spend extra money on having the sleeves tailored!

I love love love it! And with the pink scarf it is stunning. No way you will be “invisible”! I am looking forward to shopping when I’m there; there just IS a difference in what is carried in the stores from here.

You look super in that coat. It’s easy to see it’s quality… I’ll look out for a new scarf in St Tropez next month!

The pink coat and scarf really do suit your complexion Josephine. I never wear pink, it makes me look washed out, but you look fabulous, definitely your colour.

Beautiful. Agree re colour lifting your look with grey hair. I have purchased a bright red/orange tropical florals dress for family portraits to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Perfect for hot February in Australia.

    Hi Josephine,
As always, you look stunning. The pink coat makes ‘invisible’ a thing of the past. The older I become, the more colour confident I’ve become, and your suggestions are more than useful and contribute good ideas. Thank you & keep it up please.

Love, love, love that coat! I have a similar bright pink one which is now too big…definitely going to have to replace it next year.

I love your style and most of the clothes shown here but unfortunately I cannot afford a lot of the prices. However, I am planning to trawl the high street for similar and make a few adjustments to my wardrobe for spring. You have made it easier for me to choose with your helpful information and suggestions. Looking forward to my next shopping trip!

      Hi Janice
I have been checking out the high street recently and there are some good styles about if you look carefully. However, I am finding that the quality of the fabrics is not very good. It is always worth checking the labels to see the composition. If I want an item which is a bit pricey for my budget I do try and save up for it. In the end, it often pays off. Alternatively, I have found some great bargains in our local charity shops.

You inspired me! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, and very much enjoying your posts. When I saw the recent pink coat post I was insipired. And imagine my joy when Talbots sent me a sale email and their hot pink wool coat came up in my size. I bought it immediately and I love it! It’s just what I needed to brighten up my wardrobe. Thank you – without your post I’m not sure I would have clicked Buy!
