How I wear grey with grey hair

How I wear grey with grey hair

Since my hair has turned grey (mostly natural although I do have a few highlights at the back to even out colour) I have found that a light to medium grey is a very flattering shade. I have become a great fan of the sleeveless tunic. You can see examples here and here of how I have worn them. This time I have chosen a slightly shorter version in a stubbly knit (now reduced to £32.50) from the Modern Rarity range at John Lewis Similar grey sleeveless sweater at Nordstrom. The grey silk shirt I am wearing is also by Modern Rarity but seems to be sold out. Similar styles here and here.

See how I accessorise the shirt with jewellery.

I buy my long feather pendants in the market in St. Tropez. I found a similar version. Plus some interesting ones at Etsy

You can see that my hair is quite short here. I had just returned from France at the end of November having had my hair cut in a posh St.Tropez salon. I am going to have it cut again there next week as I really like the style. They have winter price promotions which helps.

I noticed a change in your hairstyle a few weeks back and have been admiring it with every post since. The added layers give fullness and, I’ll bet, movement. Simply lovely! And the greys you wear really enhance your natural hair color.

Thank you. I definitely like the added layers it makes my hair much easier to look after. Can’t wait to get it trimmed again as it is beginning too loose its shape.

Your new hairdo is very flattering and gives you a hipper, younger look. You inspired me to go grey which has taken nearly a year. Now silvery grey and navy tops and silver jewelry suit me best. With the help of silk scarves at the neckline my black cashmere and other tops are still in rotation.

I always enjoy your blog and appreciate your referencing Nordstrom and other retailers available in the U.S.

A good haircut is priceless, isn’t it? The man I go to here was a total surprise: I actually just walked into the salon(a very ordinary place in a strip mall!) one Saturday five years ago and they assigned me to him. Well, he is fabulous! You just never know. As to grey hair…well, no, never again. I tried it fifteen years ago and aacckkkkk it was just awful! No, I do high and low lights along with solid color and touch up myself for the 6-8 weeks in between visits. Works well for me! But it would be oh so much easier to forgo the hair appointments!

Lovely colour, lovely style Josephine. The French are such amazing hair cutters, I’ve never been disappointed yet by a French ‘do’, and take every opportunity when on holiday in France to have my hair cut. They just simply have the edge on our stylists.

The light grey really suits you! And yes, the haircut is a keeper.

Those shades look great on you. Although my hair is also grey (fortunately fairly decent shades and texture), I haven’t yet found the right shade of grey to wear that doesn’t leave me looking washed out. Want to stop by a make up counter and get some advice on the right blush, etc., since along with the grey hair color, the skin tone changes, too.

I agree Mary our skin does fade as we get older and some new make up is a good idea. You could try some grey scarves to experiment with different shades of grey. Believe it or not there are cool and warm greys so it is important to get the shade right for you.

I really like your hair and the grey colours of your cloths is very flattering for you.

    Wish you a lovely weekend.

This is a fabulous look and you have given me ideas again! I have also noticed your hair and it looks wonderful. A good hairdresser is like gold dust.

I love your hair! Mine has been in the process of gradually going grey for the past two decades. I’ve kept it natural as I quite like my “silver highlights”. I find myself wearing more grey than ever before and, like you, I prefer a light to medium shade.

stunning, iv gone from covering my grey with blonde, to going back to brown. well done you for embracing your own style

Thank you for all your flattering comments on my hair colour. I know that going grey can be a controversial subject and that not all greys are equal. I am lucky that my hair has gone a silver grey (with the help of purple coloured shampoo). It can be harder if your hair tends to go more of a mid tone grey. Also a modern cut is essential. I have just made an appointment with the same stylist in St.Tropez for a trim next Thursday. (luckily 30% promo in January)

The gray hair looks good on you, and that is a great cut! Very hip looking. But I will never have gray hair! I get mine colored well touched up every 4 weeks. I feel younger with brown hair!
