What to wear to a summer wedding

I have nearly worn out a pair of shoes trying to find suitable attire for a summer wedding. My wrist is suffering from repetitive strain injury from checking “special occasion” websites.

This search is of great personal interest this year as I am due to fulfil the role of Mother of the Groom this August. I had forgotten how stressful it can be to find the perfect outfit. I was Mother of the Bride 5 years ago and I remember finding it challenging then.

This time round it seemed  even harder,  either it is my imagination or dresses seem to have become mysteriously shorter and sleeves become nearly extinct. Even though I raised my budget on several occasions the perfect outfit alluded me.

The search is now over and I have found what I consider to be an outfit that I feel supremely comfortable wearing and that for me is one of the most important criteria. It is a touch unusual however it just feels “me”. I just need the final touches of bag and shoes. I am not going to reveal the ensemble in this post for obvious reasons however I will post photos after the event.

Here are a few other alternatives that I consider would tick all the boxes for this important event.

The Aqua Jacques Vert is wonderful. I never wore the outfits I purchased for both my daughters’ weddings They were quite beautiful but perhaps not me ! Can’t wait to see your outfit – I know you will make the perfect choice.

These are beautiful. I, too, have been scouring everywhere for my Mother of the Groom outfit. The wedding is this Aug. and on the beach. Very low key. I bought a pretty Ann Taylor maxi in black and am now looking for a pretty fitted wrap blouse with sleeves in a jewel toned color. No luck.

All very nice, and you’re right about too few offerings with sleeves. I’ve already decided if I win the lottery, I will get an arm lift!

Hi Duchesse I agree with the fabric thing. Probably not so important in our climate. I have seen the new collection and they seem to have upgraded some of their fabrics which is good. I have to say on my search I found even the expensive designer ranges are now using synthetics.

I am a stepmother of the groom and found it hard to find something simple and elegant, without being matronly. I also complicated my search by trying to find something I could wear again.

I was asked to wear something formal and full length. Just found something that fits the bill. Whew! I agree about the lack of dresses with sleeves. My dress has no sleeves, so I’m off to find a shrug or shawl, since the wedding is in October in Colorado. Can’t wait to see your choice.
