I can’t believe that it is sale time again. Is it my perception of time or do sales seem to come round earlier and earlier each year. Summer in London has arrived very late this year and I have only just started to wear my lighter summer clothes.
Early sales are good news if you have not already finished planning your summer wardrobe or are still in the market for adding to your holiday capsule. I find summer sales useful for enhancing my wardrobe with a few fun pieces that will zizz up my basics. If you are contemplating investing in classic accessories such as handbags, scarves etc; you can find good bargains in the accessories departments.
I will be keeping you up to date on the sales as they commence by adding a list of current ones at the bottom of my regular posts.
MY PICKS IN THE SALES:
NET-A-PORTER (grab yourself a designer bargain). I have chosen accessories as I consider stylish handbags, jewellery etc are always good season-less investments.
ANN TAYLOR Dresses and separates
J.CREW – Excellent classic linen blazers
BODEN USA – BODEN UK Practical summer dresses and tops including the classic Breton in many colours.
FINERY – If you are looking for something a little more fashion forward.
Jigsaw has also just gone on sale and has some great summer maxi dresses.
When this dress arrived and I opened the parcel I had reservations. I found the style very flattering and the fabric a high quality linen. However I felt it was a bit “bling” for me. It might not have been love at first sight but it began to grow on me. I contacted the very efficient “customer support” at Hopefashion. My question was “will this dress soften and fade with wear and washing? The answer was yes so I decided to give it a go. I am very glad I did. I can definitely see myself wearing it in St. Tropez. Drifting along the beach at sunset or sipping cocktails on the terrace. Well at least in my dreams. My summer wardrobe needed a bit of a boost.
The Hope asymmetric silver dress is in the sale and has been reduced from £120 to £30. So it was a no brainer. I have washed it once and it has already mellowed. The blue silk scarf is by East.
I like to keep up to date with fashion trends and to experiment with a new shape from time to time. I am not suggesting that we jump on the bandwagon with every new fashion gimmick. However silhouettes do evolve.
An example of a trend that has been growing over the last few seasons is the wide crop trouser. In the photos I am wearing a pair of crop palazzo pants in soft jersey. They are also available in a flat fronted style if you are not keen on the tie belt. I have teamed it with a white broderie anglaise top from last year. It is still available in small sizes here. (reduced to £29).
I know that we are continually being advised to shop for our shape “apple, pear etc”.
The long lazy summer months are ahead of us. Whether we are opting for a staycation this year or dreaming of holidays in sunny climes; sorting out and planning what we are going to wear needs to be considered. Summer tunics with sleeves are a great addition to our wardrobes.
Some of us find continuing to look chic, comfortably and appropriately dressed during the warmer months more of a challenge. This may well be because we have shed our protective layers. Thiner summer fabrics tend to be less forgiving than their thicker winter cousins. To add to this the shops seem to be full of short dresses, sleeveless tops and generally garments that expose more of the body than we might wish.
